CITY PAPER, 2006 LOOV-ME www.citypaper.net What's scarier than a chainsaw-wielding Rah Crawford destroying his own art at the closing reception of "Deus Ex Machina"? Marriage. Fortunately for knot-phobes, the social marriages going on at Crawford's "LOOV Me" art party have little in common with those legally sanctioned "by the powers invested in me, I pronounce you miserable" takes on Happily Ever After. These marriages are God-free, and meant to inspire and promote Crawford's next major showcase of paintings, "LOOVORFOOK," the theme of which is self-explanatory if you pronounce it right. "I feel that each relationship we enter—be it physical, business or just emotional—we either 'loov' or 'fook' the person at some point," explains Crawford. "Sometimes our intentions seem very clear, at least to ourselves, and other times subconscious motivations take over." That's a nice way of putting it. At any rate, "LOOV Me" is the domesticated portion of the lead-up to "LOOVORFOOK" (opening Oct. 6 at Qbix Gallery), and features drink specials, DJs, faux nuptials and live painting. (A saucier "FOOK You" gathering is slated for Sept. 22 at The Mansion.) One hundred lucky starving art collectors will also receive a limited edition Sergio and Juliet print (pictured), which might inspire some to forget the LOOVing and go straight to the FOOKing. |
